A Taste of Garden

This week for our final kindergarten classes we talked about the different parts of plants and then had tastings of various parts of plants that we eat. We ate carrot roots, celery stems, broccoli flowers, and spinach and Swiss chard leaves.

Most of us liked carrots, celery and the leafy greens, but broccoli seems to be an acquired taste. Then we sang and acted out a song about “Flowers, Leaves, Stems, and Roots to the tune of “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes.” (No, plants don’t have eyes or ears or mouths or noses!)
