“How do we know when to harvest?” aaaah…. a hunch? a feel? it smells right? fruit’s the right size? Why don’t we make a harvest calendar! Pulling out the trusty UC Master Gardener Handbook and looking up the approximate harvest time for each of our plants.

Also, though it is a very simple concept, sometimes it is still good to start with the basics or recall them. Let’s look over what makes up our soil and what that layer is called: The Pedosphere! Water, Air, Minerals and … OM? Oh, yeah, organic matter.. but perhaps it also has some spiritual qualities. hehe
